The concept behind the American dream, is that every US citizen has and opportunity to succeed. By being determined and working hard.
[sociallocker][/sociallocker]In this piece Hollywood (night) by Mac George Prints, we have the world famous Hollywood sign. Many people believed that if they wanted to be taken seriously as an actor they had to move to California and go to Hollywood. The “town of the stars” is where actors fled to, in order to become world famous movie stars. In this image, the sky is full of twinkling stars. The bright lights from the city buildings illuminate the sky. The Modern house on the left signifies the fortune in Hollywood. The palm trees and the mountains give this image a since of relaxed and good living. The airplane in the sky gives the viewers a glimpse of the good life by signifying travel and prosperity.
In this piece we see the “dream” family. A happily married couple with one daughter and one son. They seem to be having so much fun while barbecuing huge steaks and tons of hot dogs. The abundance of wealth and materialism are shown here in this image. This family has it all, happiness, tons of brand name equipment and they are prospering. This is the kind of image the media published to the world to promote the American Dream. The easy of having it all, happiness, wealth and an abundance of positions all available to Americans.
If I saw this image and I was living in another country, I too would strive and work as hard as I could to get here. Images like this were used to show people of what could be accomplished. These were used as inspiration to the audience. One thing they failed to mention was, if you work for it you will earn it. Many people expect to get here without any hard work or effort. Then they just complain about it being all lies.
